… for people just waiting
Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or waiting around for a Yes or No
or waiting for their hair to grow.
Everyone is just waiting.
Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jack
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting
It got me thinking, who knew a Dr. Suess book could make you think. But it did. Is everyone waiting for something? I thought it was just Scott and I. We’re waiting for a Better Break and Another Chance, maybe even enough money to buy a pair of pants. And the story of our life throughout our marriage has been waiting for a Yes or No, and what girl isn’t waiting for her hair to grow!?
It got me thinking, why are we always waiting for more? Why can’t we be content with life as it is?
It also got me thinking, is the Lord waiting for us to stop waiting for life to happen? Is He waiting for us to surrender it all to him? Maybe He is waiting for you to dedicate your life to Him because He died on a cross for you. Is He waiting for us to just have the peace that surpasses all understanding in life’s ups and downs, in everything our future holds. I think Yes. Our God is such a patient and merciful God who knows everything about our future and just wants us to trust Him with it. Luke 12:7, “but the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” No matter how long we’ve been waiting for our hair to grow out, He knows the very number. Why do we doubt that He’s taken care of our future, whether the answer is Yes or No?
All those thoughts just this morning, thank you Mr. Suess.
